The Gold Medal for Architecture at the Wrexham and District National Eisteddfod was awarded to Ellis Williams Architects for their work transforming the Mostyn gallery. The gallery reopened in May 2010 following a three-year period of substantial refurbishment and expansion. Some neighboring empty buildings were secured as well as additional space on the first floor resulting in a special building that combines the original terracotta front and galleries with new galleries and social spaces and striking architectural features in a building flooded with natural light.

The Mostyn Gallery is one of seven buildings from Wales to be awarded with an internationally recognized RIBA award in 2011.
Tony Chapman, Head of Awards at the RIBA was at Mostyn recently to make the presentation to the award-winning architect Dominic Williams of Ellis Williams Architects, Martin Barlow, Director of Mostyn and Duncan Macaulay from R L Davies, the building contractors.

The Arts Council of Wales and Mostyn are delighted to announce that Alfredo Cramerotti, currently Senior Curator at QUAD, Centre of Art, Media and Film in Derby, has been appointed as the new Director of Mostyn. He succeeds Martin Barlow, who steps down in September after 14 years at the helm during which he oversaw the Mostyn’s recent £5.1m prize-winning expansion and redevelopment.
