Andrea Cotton / Anna Howarth
18 Apr - 08 May 2008
Gallery 6
The new season of exhibitions opens with displays by two artists who share a painstaking and methodical approach to their respective subjects, although they are on either side of the abstract/figurative divide. Andrea Cotton’s drawings are made such that the simplest of motifs are developed to such excess that the works become more than the sum of their parts. With a minimal and conceptual heritage, they are arrived at over long periods of time and take on a life of their own through their material nature. Anna Howarth shares a methodical approach through cutting out imagery from paper, resulting in works which grow in stature as they near completion. Her figurative imagery is a modern take on the richly allusive and nostalgic worlds of the silhouette and the fairy tale.
Opening reception
Friday 18 April 2008, 6.30-9pm, at the Image Gallery adjacent to Oriel Mostyn.
