Face Value brings together three artists concerned with portraiture. Josie McCoy’s paintings include portraits of the most recognized of film stars, each reminding us of the uneasy relationship between celebrity and the imagination. Liv Pennington’s conceptual self-portraiture presents a ‘self’ knowingly engaged with an industry grounded in the distortion of images, with thought provoking results. Michael Roberts presents a cartography of the face, with paintings that combine scale and texture, highlighting to great effect the intimacy of looking. All three question the idea of veracity or truth in the depiction the human face.
