Goddy leye

The Affrica West season ends with an exhibition by Goddy Leye. His pictures derive from a poetic exploration of personal memory and ‘received’ post-colonial African history. Although they may be populated with vignettes plucked directly from some of the continent’s bloodiest recent history, these are framed in such a lyrical manner as to not appear oppositional. Rather, they gently embody a grand narrative of history in which all are implicated. Leye’s work was included in the seminal exhibition Africa Remix and he is currently undertaking a South Bank/Gasworks residency.
