James Rielly
09 Sep - 21 Oct 2000
Artificial and technological colours, fiction without story, misplaced narrative, a collection of individuals with no individuality. James Reilly’s oil paintings are based largely on photographic images culled from newspapers and magazines. They catch the viewer between fascination and repulsion, like a family photo album innocently opened to absurd situations and perverse poses. Although disturbing, they are less to do with shock than with subtle subversion.
