Rachel Lowe

Oriel Mostyn Gallery presents a series a works by Rachel Lowe, a highly-acclaimed artist whose work has featured in numerous important exhibitions over the past five years including Speed, The British Art Show 5 and Becks Futures 2002. Lowe’s work with photography, video and film has gained a reputation for its unsettling and complex use of time and imagery. Still images or filmed sequences are carefully manipulated to offer a haunting, disorientating awareness of the endless present, at once cut off from the completed past and the becoming future. Her work is infused with an awareness of the profound desire to capture particular moments in time, the impossibility of ever adequately doing so, and the resultant sense of loss. The exhibition will include a new work made specially for the exhibition and, for the first time, five versions of her noted piece’ A Letter to an Unknown Person’ (2002) showing simultaneously, and a large-scale projection of ‘South of the 31st Parallel.’ (1999)
